Massage Therapy

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues in the body including muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage Therapy uses many different techniques such as myofascial release, joint mobilizations, stretching, functional release techniques and therapist assisted motions and mobilizations to achieve and facilitate healing in the body.

Can Massage Help Me?

Besides the obvious stress and tension release from massage treatments; massage therapy can help a multitude of issues, from postural dysfunctions to sprains and strains. It can help with treating issues such as back pain, migraine headaches from muscle tension, digestive issues, sports injuries, work related injuries, pre/post orthopedic surgery healing and recovery. Massage can help decrease recovery time from whiplash injuries and other issues that are associated with a car accident. Massage is also great for helping during pregnancy with low back and hip pain that is associated with the body's posture changing to accommodate the growing baby.

How does Massage work?

Massage works by increasing circulation, breaking down scar tissue, decreasing swelling and stretching the muscles to create an environment to facilitate healing in the body. Joint mobilizations and fascial techniques are used to help increase ranges of motionand decrease the pain experienced during activities of daily life. Massage therapists also use therapeutic taping techniques such as Kinesio Taping to help support an injured area and decrease the swelling associated with an injury.

Massage Therapists will send you home with exercises and stretches to help you continue working towards healing. The therapists will work together with you to make a treatment plan that suits your specific needs. This will include educating you on what needs to be done during the treatment, explaining why it is important and also deciding on the frequency and duration of the treatments. The Massage Therapists in our clinic also work together with the chiropractors and physiotherapist to help you get back to your normal as soon as possible.

Is Massage covered by Insurance?

Massage Therapy is covered by most insurance companies. Each insurance policy has varying amounts of coverage for massage therapy treatments. All of our massage therapists are licensed by the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba and as a result of that should be fully recognized by your insurance company. Unfortunately at this time massage therapy is not covered by Manitoba Public Insurance; however it is covered on a case by case basis with the Workers Compensation Board.
